Business Writing Seminars PDF Print E-mail

business_packageIf you're like many organizations, you rely on your staff to write clearly and persuasively. Maybe your staff is writing web copy to solicit donations for a major campaign drive. Maybe staff are charged with grant writing to secure much-needed funding for an important public initiative, or maybe you just need your employees to write better in their day-to-day internal and external communications.

That's my cue.

I develop and teach customized, interactive and (dare I say it) fun writing workshops for organizations whose success depends on the quality of their employees' writing. I work with nonprofits, companies, and in the public-affairs departments of government agencies to help those who write refine their skills, so they can harness the power of well chosen words.

The tools I use are not unlike the tools I use in the college composition classes I teach. I focus on grammar, arguments, type, audience, and tone, but I also use my background in advertising and design to incorporate useability and legability issues.  And because I know that some people consider writing a third rung of hell, I inject a healthy dose of humor into all of my workshops. The idea is to make you a better writer and communicator. That won't happen if you're not engaged.

I use the latest cognitive science research avialable to train writers, so they understand more than the mechanics, but the science of communication. I don't spend a lot of time lecturing or thumbing through PowerPoint slides. I structure each workshop so participants apply what they've learned to their current work challenges, right away. My workshops include a lot of feedback, review, and practice so clients can see an immediate increase in the quality of their employee's work.

Workshop topics have included:

  • Copywriting and Design for Beginners
  • Writing to Get Grants Noticed
  • Business Writing Basics
  • Web Writing and Usability
  • Writing that Wins Presentations, Proposals and Pitches
  • Writing for Difficult Situations
